ETH10-2wire-SET is a set of active converters for the transmission of Ethernet data and PoE power using 2 wires, e.g. one pair of twisted-pair UTP cable. The set allows the installation of cameras or other IP PoE devices in places where the replacement of the existing cabling is impossible or uneconomical. It is characterised by high resistance to external interference.

Basic applications:

• installation of PoE IP cameras in place of existing analogue cameras
• for LAN + PoE transmission using UTP cable in which some of the wires have been mechanically damaged
• replacement of an intercom with an IP video intercom
• use of telephone cable for Ethernet data transmission
• installation of VOIP telephones on existing telephone cabling
• for the installation of IP PoE cameras in lifts on existing overhead cable

Due to its high resistance to interference, the ETH10-2wire-SET can be used on any cable, but maximum transmission distances may vary depending on the type of cable. The converter set works best with UTP twisted pair cable. Adequate insulation against electromagnetic interference and twisting of the wires in the 2wire path have a positive effect on the transmission range. The maximum cable length in the 2wire path is 1000m.

For cables other than twisted-pair UTP, the maximum range and throughput may differ from those stated. Factors such as the quality of the cable, the number of connectors in the cable run, damage to the insulation and the environmental conditions present at the installation site can affect the actual transmission distance and must be taken into account in the design.

ETH10-2wire-TX module is powered from any PoE switch (RJ45 port) and then, via 2 cables, allows bi-directional network communication and power to the ETH10-2wire-RX module together with the PoE camera.

ETH10-2wire-RX receiver has jumpers with which you configure the RJ45 output port. There are 3 modes of operation available:

• Mode 1 - On the RJ45 output we have LAN transmission only (factory set)
• Mode 2 - On the RJ45 port we have PoE power supply equal to the voltage from the DATA connector
• Mode 3 - The PoE power supply on the RJ45 port is equal to the voltage from the POWER connector, in this configuration the device must be powered from an external power supply

Each mode has a dedicated jumper setting.

When connecting the receiver to another switch or network card without PoE support, it is essential to switch off the PoE power supply by setting the jumper on the ETH10-2wire-RX receiver to mode 1 accordingly.

ETH10-2wire-SET modules have the possibility of being powered from external power supplies via additional POWER screw connectors. For correct power supply to the PoE receivers, the voltage must be higher than 44V.

Communication between the modules is signalled via the green LINK LED.

Key features and functions:

• power supply from a PoE switch in 802.3af, 802.3at or PoE passive standard (PoE IN port)
• configuration of operating mode by means of jumpers
• small size of the device allows for installation in small spaces, e.g. in the base of the camera
• low power consumption of the device (< 1.35W)
• wide operating temperature range

The device has a protection level of IP20, a suitable enclosure (minimum IP44) is required to ensure protection from the elements and condensation.

If the device will be used in a small space, it is possible to cut and break the mounting brackets of the base to reduce the dimensions of the module.

ETH10-2wire-SET is equipped with a universal mounting base which allows mounting in several ways:

• with mounting studs on the 10.8 mm grid, as used in all ABOX enclosures
• with the use of assembly pins for 19‘ and 10’ rack adapters
• by screwing through the additional holes to any flat surface
• using additional adapter ADD-TH35 it is possible to mount the module on the TH35 rail (DIN)

Installation notes

• When connecting the receiver to the ETH10-2wire-RX, special attention must be paid to the jumper settings on the device.
• Unlike other converter models, the 2wire allows to run transmission at 10Mbps on straight untwisted cables.
• The given throughput values and distances are given for a single pair of UTP cable wires, in reality they may vary depending on the cable used in the 2wire path.
• The modules are connected by a pair of wires using DATA connectors, which transmits both data and power. The POWER connector should only be used to supply power from an external power supply.
