xPoE-3-11A 3-port 10/100 Mbps PoE switch, extender
Description
xPoE-3-11A is designed as a LAN and PoE extender (repeater). It renews the network signal and transfers PoE to selected outputs. It is most often used as a ‘booster’ to extend the network over distances greater than 100 m. Additionally, it is ideal as an ‘active splitter’ when multiple PoE devices (e.g., several IP cameras) need to be powered from a single UTP cable, or when an additional network branch is required.
The device is a newer, improved version of the xPoE-3-11 model. Based on our own observations, tests and your suggestions the new version with the letter "A" has been enhanced with several functional modifications:
- improvements were made to the PoE IN power system
- sequential start of PoE OUT outputs was added (during startup and after a short circuit)
- maximum power consumption was reduced (below 0.5 W)
Key features and functions:
- the miniature design allows mounting in the camera base
- supports 802.3af/at or PASSIVE PoE standards (PoE IN)
- provides power supply for 2 PoE 802.3af/at or PASSIVE receivers (PoE OUT)
- cascade power option – one module powers another
- renews and distributes the network signal (fully functional 100Mbps switch)
- up to 40 W of total power
- quick and easy setup with no configuration required
- wide operating temperature range
- low power consumption (<0.5 W)
- sequential start of PoE outputs

Unmanaged PoE switches and extenders are designed to work with IP cameras and other network devices powered by PoE 802.3af/at and PoE PASSIVE standards.
Compact design enables installation in limited spaces.
It also allows the device to be installed in any enclosure, although the most convenient method is to use dedicated ABOX series enclosures and mounting plates with a special 10.8 mm hole pattern. This system allows vertical or horizontal installation of selected devices in any perforated section of the enclosure or mounting plate. With an additional adapter, the device can be installed on a TH-35 rail.
The enclosure allows for several mounting options:
- “traditionally” using mounting pins in a 10.8 mm hole pattern, as found in all ABOX enclosures
- by screwing through additional holes to any flat surface
- using the ADD-RACK2U1 or ADD-RACK2U2 mounting plate
- using additional clips on the TH35 (DIN) ADD-TH35 rail
Please note that some aspects are beyond our control.
Since the extender is powered via PoE, its maximum available output power is limited by the power supplied by the PSE (the device powering the xPoE-3-11A):
- for the 802.3af standard, this is approximately 13W available on the extender
- for the 802.3at standard, this is approximately 25W available on the extender
- for Passive PoE, this is a maximum of 40W available on the extender
Take into account the IR illuminators – they switch on at night and significantly increase power consumption. Also consider power losses in the supply cable, which depend on its cross-section, length, and the PoE line voltage.
Examples of applications
Basic application of the xPoE-3-11A – when an additional IP camera needs to be connected using an existing single UTP cable, or when the network and PoE need to be extended to another location.

Basic application of xPoE-3-11A - cascading connection of 2 extenders to power 3 cameras.

Basic application of xPoE-3-11A – cascading connection of 3 extenders to power 4 cameras using the IPB-5-10A-S4 PoE switch.
